Flight details:
Myself, Scott and Chris entered the BOS this year in the club class. We had a cracking time in Wales in the company of some of the best pilots out there. The only thing missing was the flying. It has been so windy that even superman would have packed his cape in fear of being dragged behind. We compensated for it with some nice walks in the Brecon Beacons in winds up to 60mph. At least we saw some beautiful sites, well worth a visit when the wind isn't blowing at gale. By the day 4 many people got fed up with the wind and the rain and went home. We were amongst them. However, ironically the last day's forecast changed into an Awesome Tuesday. In consequence a task has been set and in the morning I set off for the Malvern.
In the club class we had a straight goal 37km downwind, which was the turnpoint for the flexwind class. The club class' launch window didn't open until most flexwing pilots were gone, so following them hasn't been an option.
I made my way downwind, got to goal with a bit of height and then saw a tractor ploughing a field nearby. I raced there and caught the thermal which took me to cloudbase. Then I thought of heading to the flexwing goal but I didn't have their waypoint in my GPS on route and for the life of me couldn't remember what it was. So I decided to enjoy the Welsh landscape and headed west for another 45km.
