Title: Just scraping a flat triangle
Site:Firle
Pilot:John Turczak
Date of flight:14th March 2013
Wing type:Paraglider
Flight details:
I tried to get to the Dyke by 9am but was defeated by the snowed in roads and didn't fancy the walk up. The roads at that point were chaotic and the police at just after 9 closed the road up to the Dyke. After a quick call to Nancy from Flybubble I found out it was all clear on the road up to Firle. So I headed off there.
There was not a lot of lift directly of the hill and you had to be prepared to push out a bit to get into the lift.
With only about 10 to 12 of us there it was fine. After a couple of short flights I managed to break through the 300 ft above take off point and then the thermals became a lot more consistent. I ended up about 1100 ft above take off, there was another pilot who was up at cloud base. My flight plan was to fly a triangle. So I pushed west along the ridge till I was running out of lift and then came back and pushed out in front.

While not spectacular i managed to clock up just over 5Km on a flat triangle
