Flight details: | Sopot to Yasenova! Didn't expect that today, not with the partying after last night at any rate!
A good climb out with Finn Kennedy and Pete Impey then along the mountain ridge, with a good climb back over the top into the next vast plain that spread out into the distance far below. Finally caught up with Owen Latham and Teodora (Teddy) Velichkova on her Niviuk Artik 3 and crossed the top of the mountain with strong thermals popping off every ridge. Owen appeared to bomb out low over the trees in the next deep valley but with a lot of hard work he managed a slow climb out while Pete, Teodora and I cruised on and left him in our wake. Beautiful flying over the mountains, I think perhaps the most rewarding flight ever such stunning views across the Bulgarian flat lands from 8500'. Although we could easily have continued I decided to land east of Yasenova and when turning into wind I was glad to see Pete and Teodora so close behind. Owen managed a good save of course and went on to fly at least 100K and quite possibly rather more. Such a fabulous day and so much learned from a mixture of mountain and flatland flying! |
