Flight details: | Fantastic day. I was the second rigid glider to take off. I especially liked today's launch because I didn't immediately crash afterwards, its better that way... Climbed out within 15mnutes and drifted back over Brighton. Saw the seabreeze dangling over the coast and didn't think it looked ready yet so headed for falmer. Got another climb near there and drifted back to the now slightly better curtain cloud near newhaven. Went and had a play as I had my go-pro filming it (video coming soon) so went and dived through the dangling cloud a few times which was fun. I then headed towards hailsham and realised the seabreeze stopped near Eastbourne and hadn't continued. I tried to just focus on staying up here and eventually pushed towards hailsham for my next decent climb. This got me to base but there was still no sign of the seabreeze towards bexhill and the clouds on my route were looking scrappy and lots of high cirrus! I slowly worked onwards trying to maintain height but the wind was now a moderate NNW and the weak climbs were drifting me towards the coast. I eventually made it to Hastings but was low and was now relying on 5 circling sea gulls over Tescos that were going to get me back up... They didn't, I landed just between battle and Hastings in a nice field. As I landed a mum and her daughter came to say hi. The mum asked the usual questions, where did you come from, how high, how do you steer it, is it heavy. Then the little girl asked a much better question, 'could you see god up there?'
I was retrieved by my wonderful wife and we were home by 3pm just about to enjoy a beer when I got the call from taka. Landed 2kms from deal... A little over 6 hours driving later and I'm home. Taka had a great flight although had to work very hard for the last bit.
My glider is being sold on Thursday so that will be my last flight on it, much better to leave it on an xc instead of a failed launch ;0)
