Title: Following the Ed Route
Site:Devils Dyke
Pilot:Mark Rubinstein
Date of flight:25th May 2015
Wing type:Paraglider
Flight details:
It was good watching Ed on his first XC of the day and hearing the sage comments on the hill about how wise he was to push north and go around the front of the downs so I knew to follow the “Ed route”

I took off straight into strong lift and didn't turn for the first 600'and the managed to get an easy climb to 3,000' so pushed North, sinking towards Newtimber but managed to connect with a good climb under an obvious looking cloud to climb to nearly 4,000, leaving the climb to avoid air space (which was 500' above me but it was a sucky cloud). That was my best climb of the day and the most height I managed to achieve.

I flew over Ditchling (where one glider was launching) and thought I was losing it over Plumpton were I got a small climb and some further climbs behind Lewes although nothing very organised and I thought I would glide to Ringmer but managed to get one last decent climb by Glyndebourne whilst watching people flying at Firle. Another glider was flying closer to the downs and seemed to be doing better but that was my last climb and I landed right by Berwick train station (which made for an easy journey back to the Dyke).

Given how much it had clouded over I was surprised to see lots in the air (and getting good height) when I got back to the Dyke.
