Flight details: | Conditions kept us honest, as the Ginger Crow would say, first getting up from the hill and then most of the way to Heathfield. I scrabbled along low for a while in some broken climbs, and Greg said he was lined up for landing!
Not 100% sure why the air turned to rubbish in this stretch, and all the clouds looked frayed, but it felt like I was tickling the SBFs underbelly from Ditchling to Heathfield. It slapped me back and said "Ooo stopit, you naughty boy!" a few times along the way too.
After Heathfield it got a lot easier until Canterbury, after which I was stopped by sea breeze from NE, took glide from 35ish to ground, hoping to get climbs. I landed due to being over-cautious, big-ears to stay below 3G crossing under dark SBF cloud??s which, it turned out, didn't suck.
Perhaps we should've followed the gnarly looking SBF, running between Canterbury and Sandwich, with tops going quite high, especially down south, but the base looked a bit higher too.
Greg summed it up nicely: "Was great flying up to that point. 100k of sparkly fun with chillies!" |
