I had been considering doing a flight home for some time and today managed to grow a pair and do it.
Conditions did not look encouraging for us two hangies at Dyke today. PGs were mainly low until gone 10:30. It went quite west and Dave and I almost didn't go. I took a last ditch punt and by a stroke of luck managed to get up. Thermals were quite slow but I eventually got to about 4000ft amsl and headed of towards Ditchling beacon and then to Lewes and then Ringmer flying just in front of the SBF. got low over Horam and had selected the playing fields as a landing but managed to get a low save around 800ft and climbed out to over 4000. Reached Bodiam with 3000ft amsl and then got some of the most certain climbs of the flight but this was just up the road from home and where I had intended to finish. Landed near the Castle about 150 m from Castle Inn where I went to await my retrieve. A great flight. |
