Title: Devils Dyke to just past Caburn
Site:Devils Dyke
Pilot:John Porter
Date of flight:16th May 2012
Wing type:Paraglider
Flight details:
Launched and after several climb attempts eventually climbed to around 2300 feet with others then ambled over to Newtimber where I got below ridge height and I was considering my landing options which included a few nice fields and a few nasty power lines.
There was a bonfire next to the farm and the smoke from this suddenly pointed boldly towards the south east so I followed it's track, smelt smoke and hurrah! was lofted to 3684 feet. (I'm not sure why my GPS file says I got to 27000 feet)...
Managed to get bits of lift just as I flew over the University then, having overflown Lewes prison and getting low over Lewes I got a weak climb over Lewes railway station which propelled me low over Mount Caburn. Followed the A27 very low, inspected the new cycleway roadworks then turned to land just 200 metres short of Sussex Hanggliding and Paragliding shop (other East Sussex paragliding businesses are available).
Packed and walked to SHG+P. It was closed :o(. Thumbed lift to Brighton then got cab to the Dyke.
Tefal got to Polegate, nice one!. Carlo and Nancy got to Hailsham so I hear?. Don't know where Craig got to; he went north of the Ditchling Ridge as far as I can tell and probably went a hell of a lot further....
