Flight details: | Maybe I left a bit early, but found myself at 2,900ft E of the Dyke with all the others pushing back out front but dropping like stones, so let's give it a try I think. Aimed for brown fields around a little W facing valley to the E of the A23, with rising ground up to the ridge by the Indian War Memorial. This should work, methinks, but was it in the plan to arrive quite so low......? After a nervous bout of waiting going up and down a bit, it popped off at last which then got me to another modest climb at Ditchling Road and then another at the University. Allowed myself to get a bit rattled by SBF, dark clouds etc so didn't really maximise the potential. Then made a glide for the most impressive cylinder of birds thermalling up from behind the Texaco on the A27, but got drilled on the way, couldn't get up so landed near the Newmarket Inn a bit further on. But all in all a pleasant and instructive drift across the Downs. |
