Flight details: | Afternoon found us on Clough Head where it was apparently crowded by local standards (all of 12 gliders in the air max!). A short hike to the take off area found plenty of space set-up and Ed and I were quickly up and away. I focused on scratching up and down the small knoll before braving the main ridge. It was a daunting prospect initially but once I had found how close I could get and still feel in control, and then found some lift it became great fun. Very quickly got some 2-3 up's and was soaring 100m over the top. From here the view was amazing and it was tempting to just aim for the horizon. Instead I worked my way down the main ridge for a km or two, decided (sensibly) against pushing out for the next ridge, worked my way back, floated around a bit, and then tried a circuit of the knoll, but being about 50-100 m lower than the clever people ended up bombing out in the sink behind it. However it was only a short walk back down the hill to meet Ed and get a lift back to Keswick. |
