Flight details: | Short version: Caught a reasonable but wind-blown thermal shortly after launching and drifted over the back at around 1500ft ASL; a few followed below but decided to head back to the hill (or at least try to) not quite making it back. After much scrabbling for the first several kilometres I eventually found a decent climb just past Ringmer gliding club and got to cloudbase at around 2900ft ASL. From there I kept pushing on each time either the climb got too weak or I reached cloudbase, which maxed-out at around 3600ft ASL. On what turned out to be my final glide I think I misread the conditions ahead, not quite finding the next thermal, eventually landing in a nice field next to a golf driving range (golf balls whizzing by) near the aptly named village of Golford.
Nice to feel avian again! :) |
