Flight details: | It was too light to soar on the hill at first, then the first thermal cycles came and a big gaggle got up. A second gaggle climbed out soon after.
As we all went off XC together it became apparent that the lift was very weak and broken; very slow going. A couple went ahead and showed us it wasn't working well. Much mincing ensued for the next 3-4 hours.
After much scrabbling I eventually got in to some choppy convergence lift near Faversham and pushed east towards Canterbury. The wind was picking up so I decided to land and left good climbs to get down. In retrospect this was a mistake (being over-cautious) as the wind was still OK for another hour or so. Better to be safe than sorry, so they say.
Lovely flight, really enjoyed it - especially flying along with a few good friends. In the past I've mostly been all on my own!
For me, very little compares to the fleeting adventure of XC flying. :)
