Flight details: | A forecast good flying day began with flying straight into a solid 8 up thermal gaining 3,500'ato allowing me to have a good height for most of the flight. The second thermal took me to 8,870' amsl, flying above the snow-line with fantastic views both over the flatland in front and back into the mountains and the land beyond to the North.
Today was hard work; there was plenty of strong lift (max sustained climb was in an 11-up) but with a lot sink monsters, growing wind strength and sometimes rough air. Others were doing well over the flats but I kept to the edge of the mountains. My last climb took me to 7,500' but drifted me further back into the mountains. I left the climb below base, nervous of cloud suck, only to find myself being drilled by sink and wind. Half and then full bar and still only getting a speed of around 5km/h and 1:1 glide (sink) ratio had me looking into the forest below considering a tree-landing fate. Fortunately I made it out to the flats to land next to Crispin and then joined by Owen.
Holy Shipka what a flight. Our fantastic retrieve took us to a local bar for refreshments whilst Finn was collected from his mountain landing such excellent service. |
