Flight details: | Well here's my story
I launched and took the first climb out. Ked Shayer was way up above me getting pilot coaching from Carlo so I had to work hard to catch him up. Eventually I did and we got to nearly 3000ft together! Ked enjoyed his new dizzy heights and explored the skies whilst I pushed on towards Firle, where I could see Greg. Not sure at first that Greg realised it was me as today I was on the Swing Mistral 7, just to confuse everyone! I kept an eye on Ked and encouraged him to head along the ridge towards Firle. I nabbed Firle FOF turnpoint and took a glide into wind to pick up another lovely climb. On glide towards Caburn, Greg and I attempted a glide comparison, Mistral 7 vs Icepeak 6! I think I was winning ;-0 & then realised I was in lift, so we took the climb out which drifted us towards Rodmell. I thought twice about the Caburn FOF turnpoint thinking it was very tricky to reach (why not take the easy glide downwind) but soldiered on pushing into wind. Spotted Tefal racing underneath, he was heading in the opposite direction towards Swanborough ridge. I got Caburn and quickly climbed out again. Now how to cross Lewes? Where was that next climb going to be? Behind the Nevill estate a seagull was playing, hope! I got low and it was bumpy but got the climb to cover more distance. At this point I now know it should have been a hard push towards Blackcap but made a choice of familiarity along A27. Stanmer Park seemed buzzing with people but sadly no thermal.
Honestly couldn't walk from where I landed to Ditchling FOF turnpoint, I started, did about 1km to Ditchling road (was it the hottest day of the year?) Too hot and too heavy pack (extra water today was getting on 20kg).

I did jump in the back of a van to get dropped off at Ditchling beacon car park and walked to take off. Only a 10 minute flight all alone, retrieve was on the way. FoF = FUN!!! |
