Flight details: | I was not happy with the task called yesterday. As they said "the launch window was now open" the cu-nimb about 30km behind us let out a rumble of thunder. I took off and very quickly decided that this was not my type of flying and took a few climbs to land back at doussard landing field, first there, packed up my glider and drunk a few beers watching the storm thinking, why the hell is everyone else not back here yet!!!! I lost a lot of points as they never cancelled the task and most decided they were happy to fly in those conditions.
Today was meant to cu-nimb later on in the afternoon. I was second to launch and had a slow start as I couldn't leave for the start cylinder at the height the other guys did as I knew my glider wouldn't make it back. I eventually got high enough to make it and started catching up a few people. I overtook 5 rigids and a couple went down at turnpoint 2. After that every decision I made seemed to pay off and I caught up a lot of pilots. I ended up only about 10 minutes behind the lead gaggle when I suddenly saw the growing cloud far too close to my next turnpoint. The next thing I know there is lightening coming out of the cloud 20km infront and I had immediately decided to land. On my way down to the doussard landing field I was told that the task had finally been cancelled. The decision was too late in my opinion, it should have been about 20 minutes earlier when the cloud was growing. I was happy with my decision to land despite loosing me points but as it happened I should have come about 13th for the day as I raced around the second part of the course. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. |
