Flight details:
Arrived early as forecast was for it to blow out by 10am. 3 others in the air when I arrived. By time I took of at 08:40 Greg had also turned up. First flight failed to connect with anything and slope landed on the west bowl. Hiked up a bit and tried again. By now Nancy, Carlo and half a dozen others had also got out. A lot of people pushing out were finding climbs to over 1000ft but I kept falling out my first thermal at 750ft. After a couple of hours and with wind picking up, realised everyone else had left so headed for the car park. Almost got caught out by venturi behind the trees by being too far to the east on approach. However also picked up a strong climb (2.4m/s) and followed it all the way to 1400ft. With no further prompting flopped over the back and headed in search of Greg and Nancy. Drifted past Glyndebourne, found a couple thermals around there, but by time I hit The Broyle it was all done. Drifted in a steady downwind glide and picked a nice big field nearly opposite the Wok Inn for my first local XC. Icing on the cake was being picked up by the Flybubble crew 2 minutes after reaching the road - thanks guys!
