Date of flight:27th February 2015
Wing type:Paraglider
Flight details:
Launched to join the tail-end of a thermal in front of takeoff that took me to 2000', then headed towards Saddlescombe to be out of the lee where I found a bit of lift that I nursed for nearly 10 minutes, not gaining or losing much height. Just before the A23 a thermal took me to 3150', the highest of the flight. Tracking along the A27 there was lots of lift to be had, I got a climb at Stanmer, thought about heading inland to the Plumpton ridge to be further from the sea-breeze, had a change of mind and turned back, finding a climb off the University, and another good one at the Newhaven roundabout. I was having a lovely time until after Alfriston reservoir when I thought I really should avoid the sea-breeze, and headed north-east to the wood before Hailsham. Landed in a hastily chosen boggy field, as a horse had appeared in the nice dry one I had earmarked as ideal. I now have a green and brown wing. A lovely flight and a UK PB for me. Only my second on the Mentor 3, and I am itching to do it again, but better!
