Date of flight:16th May 2015
Wing type:Hang glider
Flight details:
It was great to see 20+ hangies out on the hill on Sat. Lots of new and old faces including Johnny Carr, so it must have been a good day! It felt like a competition with everyone getting ready to go xc. Routes discussed, turnpoints entered, goals declared, radios checked. I think more than half the field went xc. We've got into a habit of not submitting flights on the website, so this is my first post ever, even although i've been a member for over a decade. Hopefully others will follow.
My flight wasn't epic but it was great fun to climb out with 5 others wingtip to wingtip. Cloudbase at 4300ft our little mixed gaggle of rigid hotships to beginner flexies flew together most of the way until after the fourth thermal at Caburn. After Caburn it had gone blue and with the weak thermals and having to go crosswind with a strong NW half the field started to struggle. I opted for a nice field next to Arlington reservoir with Berwick station and the pub next door. Congratulations to Luke Nicol, Dave Matthews and Paul Harvey who worked well together in very difficult conditions with a strong crosswind. Later Luke counted 22 thermals to get to where he and Dave landed. That's no downwind dash, that's for sure!
