Flight details: | Forecast looked good but when I arrived at Caburn it was absolutely still. Remembering the Glynde lecture I got my kit ready so that I could launch once I saw breeze on the river. As soon as the wind picked up, at around 10.30am, I got in the air, maybe third person in the air, and flew straight into a very strong climb. A purple glider climbed with (through) me. Eventually the lift dropped a bit, and with the sky totally blue I decided to head back toward the hill and try to get another climb there.
Saw a cloud over the back of the Airworks hill and a bunch of seagulls took me into a good climb, a bit up and down and broken, which I worked for as long as I could. The purple glider was a little way down and crosswind of me and I saw him hit a good climb, but wasn't sure I could get there in time. Mistake as I lost lift and was getting to the 3,500 airspace so wanted to go in that direction anyway. Later I tried to glide towards some other scrappy clouds which didn't have anything under them.
Nice flight, wish I'd joined the purple glider! Thanks to Ghandi for giving a bunch of us a lift back to the hill. |
