Flight details: | A very sloooow start to the climb out, which then got a bit more organized for the last half up to a low cloudbase at around 2,500 ft. Headed off with a Gradient XC5 (Paul Jiggins....? Good to share the first part of the flight with you!), working our way slowly to the East using gentle but quite consistent climbs. After a more feisty climb at Plumpton, I pushed off on my own. Sea breeze front was close, and as I approached Lewes - and not fancying options further inland much - I thought I'd try and find the fabled SBF convergence, hoping to connect and then sit back and enjoy the view as we booted our way in a straight line to points East. Now, despite all the years, this was actually the first time I've been up close and personal to the SBF. Curtain cloud was below me and a bit off to the right, so I nibbled my way in, expectantly waiting for the solid and consistent lift telling me I had hit the target. Didn't quite work out that way - I seem to have flown into the sea air and then glided straight to the deck by the Glynde wind turbine. Grrrr..... Still an unexpected 20km xc. A nice way to spend the morning - and it was my birthday as well!!
Thanks to Grita for the retrieve. |
