Flight details: | First time at Selsley for me. Made the cut for the BCC round (we had 7 pilots and 6 spaces). Took me a bit if time to get going and left the hill probably lower than I would have liked but I was committed. Lots of clouds building but I never really figured out what was going on so used other gaggles of paragliders to guide me. This time as I approached Tetbury and the Highgrove restricted area I was staying up and sailed past giving a salute that I hope wasn't observed by the boys in blue.
After about 20k things were not looking so good as I drifted into a blue hole and down. I saw a couple of fields near a house and, as I approached, what I feared might be horses were actually several deer that stood and watched as I made a gentle landing. The lady of the house came over and we had a long chat as I explained how we managed to cover the distances we do and the interesting places we fly over, or in to. They offered me a cup of tea but I knew Mark Rubinstein was in the nearby town and organising a lift back to hill so I declined. Her husband offered me a lift to a roundabout on the edge of town by once en route changed his mind and dropped me off in town in time for coffee and cake with Mark. A very nice couple (the house owners, not Mark and I) and a pleasant day. |
