Flight details: | My best UK flight
Arrived at the Dyke just before 10 to find a small group high and everyone else on the deck waiting. There was no breeze at all and a number of brave people took off and went straight down to the landing field.
I spent some time trying to look for birds or anything marking a climb but didnt see anything good. I then noticed the wind start to reverse as the seabreeze came in so decided to launch to see if the seabreeze would kick anything off. If not then at least I tried! About 200ft above the landing field I found a thermal and away we went.
Got up from there and found another climb over one of the brown fields to the west of the Dyke. This got me up to the gaggle and the SBF - Magic!
We glided away towards Lewes with fields of crops topping up our height all the way. At Lewes the gaggle split up a bit and I decided to aim for some brown fields between the culfield tunnel and Ringmer. At this point I got drilled on my glide where as the rest of the gaggle joined back up, pushed north and went straight back into orbit!!
I was lining up to land when I found a little climb that eventually took me back to 4000ft!! The gaggle then came back to join me in my climb.
At the end of this climb as the group started to glide away I found myself a little too close to the cloud. Big ears and bar were still going up so I performed my first spiral dive in anger to get back down. Just to note here I was 99% sure everyone else had glided on and they weren't below me, I was fortunately right!
Once out I chased after to group and we climbed again over Heathfield. At this point I left the group with the hope to flying back to Crowborough where I live to fulfil an aim held since I started flying. Sadly I made it to Mayfield and no further. Landed in the grounds of the girls school where a nice lady gave me the short lift home.
Thrilled with the flight. My best in the UK and I'd say best yet. Im not great with the GPS and only turned it one as |
