Title: Blowing off the cobwebs
Site:Devils Dyke
Pilot:Chris Townsend
Date of flight:10th August 2016
Wing type:Rigid wing
Flight details:
Before today, for reasons too boring to detail, I'd barely flown my hang glider in the past four months . So I took off today in a slightly apprehensive frame of mind. This was not helped by my nosecone coming loose immediately after take-off and having to scrape back in on top to reattach it. The VR flies horribly with a loose nosecone. The second flight was much nicer and I soon settled in and proved to myself that I can still thermal, after a fashion. Lift was easy to find and strong but a bit disorganised, and the sink was also strong. Landing is always a bit of worry when one is rusty but mine was good so, all in all, the flight was a good confidence boost.

The wind dropped steadily through the afternoon and when it got less gusty I flew my Epsilon 8, making my first 1,000+ ft height gain (1,660 ft) towards the pilot tasks and bringing my hours to a grand total of 7 1/2
