Flight details: | Hangies flew all morning, with a few occasional PGs braving it. Some time after 4pm, feeling a lull and seeing Dave Massey doing fine (on PG), I launched. My first climb, to about 1,200 ft, I spent sitting immobile facing forwards, making sure I was remaining in front of launch. The second was more conventional, and I circled in it over the back, where it became smooth and gentle, taking me to over 3,000 ft. Dave had gone ahead of me, and on a more southerly track -- I was always going far enough east to be sure of gliding clear of Brighton. Suddenly I saw him turn and shoot off towards Asda. I glided a bit crosswind to avoid the built-up areas, then reached 3245ft in the next climb. A glide towards the south-east found no more lift, which was probably a good thing given the proximity of the sea and the strength of the wind. Landed between Rottingdean and Saltdean. |
