Start flying

Learn to fly.

SHGC membership is for qualified pilots — so the first step is to train with a school. Here is where to start, right here on the South Downs.

First, learn with a school

To be a member of the Southern Hang Gliding Club you must be a qualified pilot. If you want to learn to fly, you must attend a school first. The hang gliding and paragliding schools below can teach you to fly, or take you up for a tandem flight — please contact them directly.

Check before you commit.Since 1 January 2015 the club requires all new paraglider pilots not only to have gained their Club Pilot rating, but also to have completed the practical top-landing and slope-landing exercises, signed off in their pilot task book. Please check that your school’s training includes these practical exercises before you choose a school.
